Nord Stream 2
Nord Stream 2 is a 1,234-kilometre-long natural gas pipeline from Russia to Germany, running through the Baltic Sea. It was financed by Gazprom and several European energy companies, with construction beginning in 2018 and completed in September 2021. The pipeline's certification was suspended in February 2022 by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz due to concerns over Russia's geopolitical actions. In September 2022, several explosions occurred at the pipeline, causing significant gas leaks and damage, which the European Union considers to be sabotage. The incident resulted in the worst release of methane gas in human history, and Russia confirmed that one of the pipelines escaped destruction. Investigations into the incident have been ongoing, with Denmark and Sweden closing their investigations in February 2024 without assigning responsibility, while Germany has issued an arrest warrant for a Ukrainian national suspected of sabotage.learn more on wikipedia
