Niger River
The Niger River is the main river of West Africa, extending approximately 4,180 kilometers and covering a drainage basin of 2,117,700 square kilometers. Its source is in the Guinea Highlands in south-eastern Guinea, and it flows through Mali, Niger, and Nigeria before discharging into the Gulf of Guinea in the Atlantic Ocean. The river's main tributary is the Benue River, and its name is derived from the Berber phrase "gr-n-grwn" meaning "river of rivers". The Niger has a hot climate with a long dry season and a brief rainy season, and it is characterized by yearly flooding that peaks in November. The river's Inner Niger Delta is a unique feature, forming where its gradient suddenly decreases, and it is extremely productive for fishing and agriculture.learn more on wikipedia
