New World
The term "New World" was first used to describe the majority of lands in the Western Hemisphere, particularly the Americas, by Italian explorer Amerigo Vespucci in his 1503 pamphlet Mundus Novus. This term gained prominence after Vespucci published his conclusion that the lands he and other European explorers had discovered constituted a new continent. The New World was differentiated from the "Old World" of Afro-Eurasian lands, which were collectively referred to as Africa, Asia, and Europe. The term "New World" was initially used by Vespucci and other explorers to describe the Americas, but it was not the first time similar terms were used. Earlier explorers such as Alvise Cadamosto and Peter Martyr d'Anghiera had used terms like "un altro mondo" and "western antipodes" to refer to sub-Saharan Africa and the lands discovered by Christopher Columbus.learn more on wikipedia
