Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport
The Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport is an international airport serving Kolkata and the surrounding metropolitan area, with a capacity of 20 million passengers in the 2023-24 financial year, making it the sixth-busiest airport in India. Opened in 1924 as the Calcutta Aerodrome, it was a major stopover for flights from North America and Europe to Indochina and Australia. The airport was used as a cargo aerial port and a communication centre for the US Army Air Forces and the Tenth Air Force during World War II. After independence, the airport served as a destination for the world's first jet-powered passenger aircraft, the de Havilland Comet, and introduced the first Indian domestic jet service in 1964.learn more on wikipedia
