Munich Massacre

The Munich massacre was a terrorist attack during the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, West Germany, carried out by eight members of the Palestinian militant organization Black September. The militants killed two members of the Israeli Olympic team and took nine others hostage, who were later killed in a failed rescue attempt. The West German police ambushed the terrorists, killing five of the eight Black September members, but the rescue attempt failed, resulting in the deaths of all the hostages. The incident led to criticism of the West German government's handling of the incident and the release of the three surviving perpetrators in a hostage exchange.
