McDonald Islands

The Territory of Heard Island and McDonald Islands is an Australian external territory comprising a volcanic group of mostly barren Antarctic islands. The islands were discovered in the mid-19th century and have been an Australian territory since 1947. They are among the most remote places on Earth, located about 4,100 km southwest of Perth, and are uninhabited, with only a few private expeditions and scientific visits having taken place since their discovery.
