Maya
The Maya are an ethnolinguistic group of indigenous peoples of Mesoamerica, inhabiting southern Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, and parts of El Salvador and Honduras. They are descended from the ancient Maya civilization, with an estimated seven million individuals living in the region at the start of the 21st century. The Maya people have maintained remnants of their ancient cultural heritage, with some living a traditional, culturally distinct life, while others are integrated into the majority westernized mestizo cultures of the nations in which they reside. The Yucatán Peninsula is home to one of the largest groups of Maya, who identify as "Maya" and speak the Yucatec Maya language. However, there is confusion regarding the correct terminology to use, with linguists referring to the language as Yucatec or Yucatec Maya, while the people are simply called Maya.learn more on wikipedia
