Mavi Marmara
The MV Mavi Marmara is a Comoros-flagged passenger ship built in 1994, previously operated by İDO Istanbul Fast Ferries Co. Inc. on the Istanbul-Marmara Island-Avşa Island route. The ship was purchased in 2010 by the IHH, a Turkish NGO, at a cost of $800,000, to participate in the Gaza Freedom Flotilla. The IHH has been accused by Israel of supporting terrorism, smuggling arms, and having links to al-Qaeda, claims the organization denies. On May 31, 2010, Israeli commandos boarded the ship in international waters, leading to a violent clash that resulted in the deaths of nine activists. The incident was documented by journalists on the ship and concluded in a UN report that the Israeli military opened fire with live rounds before boarding.learn more on wikipedia
