MacDill Air Force Base
MacDill Air Force Base is a United States Air Force installation located in South Tampa, Florida. It was established in 1939 as Southeast Air Base, Tampa, and is named in honor of Colonel Leslie MacDill. The base has been home to various units, including Strategic Air Command and Tactical Air Command, and has operated aircraft such as the B-47 Stratojet, F-4 Phantom II, and F-16 Fighting Falcon. Currently, the 6th Air Refueling Wing is the host wing for MacDill AFB, and it is home to the headquarters of two unified combatant commands: United States Central Command and United States Special Operations Command. Additionally, the base is the site of a newly discovered African-American cemetery from the 19th century, with evidence of potentially 121 unmarked graves.learn more on wikipedia
