The M*A*S*H franchise is a series of novels, a film, several television series, plays, and other properties, based on the semi-autobiographical fiction of Richard Hooker. The franchise depicts a group of fictional characters who served at the fictional "4077th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital" during the Korean War, with Hawkeye Pierce as the main character. The original novel "MASH: A Novel About Three Army Doctors" was published in 1968, followed by a 1970 film adaptation directed by Robert Altman and a television series that ran from 1972 to 1983, starring Alan Alda as Hawkeye Pierce.
