Louis IX

Louis IX was King of France from 1226 until his death in 1270 and is widely recognized as the most distinguished of the Direct Capetians. He was crowned at the age of 12 and served under the regency of his mother, Blanche of Castile, before assuming power himself. During his reign, Louis expanded French territory, implemented significant reforms in the French legal system, and led two ill-fated crusades against Muslim dynasties in North Africa and the Holy Land.
