Lake Maï-Ndombe
Lake Mai-Ndombe is a large freshwater lake in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, covering approximately 890 square miles. It is located in the Mai-Ndombe province and is part of the Tumba-Ngiri-Maindombe area, the largest Wetland of International Importance recognized by the Ramsar Convention. The lake has a mean depth of 5 meters and a maximum depth of 10 meters, with a pH range of 4.2 to 5.5. Its waters support a high biodiversity, including two species of otters, marsh mongoose, and numerous waterbirds. The fish fauna of the lake has been poorly documented, with over 30 species known, but the actual figure is presumed to be higher. The lake is also an important transportation route, with many passenger ferries carrying hundreds of people each day, despite many of the boats being old and not maintained.learn more on wikipedia
