LaGuardia International Airport
LaGuardia Airport is a civil airport located in East Elmhurst, Queens, New York City, covering 680 acres as of 2024. Established in 1929 and operating as a public airport since 1939, it is named after former New York City mayor Fiorello La Guardia. The airport primarily serves domestic and limited international destinations, with American Airlines and Delta Air Lines being its main hubs. It is governed by unique regulations including a curfew, a slot system, and a "perimeter rule" prohibiting non-stop flights to or from destinations greater than 1,500 miles away. A multibillion-dollar reconstruction of the airport's passenger infrastructure is underway, expected to be completed by 2025. The airport's history began as a natural shoreline and a German-influenced summer resort development known as North Beach, which was later abandoned due to Prohibition and anti-German sentiment. In 1929, the first seaplane base, North Beach Airport, was established, which was later renamed Glenn H. Curtiss Airport in honor of the New York aviation pioneer. The airport was improved and expanded over the years, with airline service launched to various destinations in the United States.learn more on wikipedia
