La Bestia
La Bestia, also known as El Tren de la Muerte or El Tren de los Desconocidos, is a freight train that runs from Chiapas, Mexico to Mexico City, connecting with other trains heading to the US border. Between 400,000 to 500,000 migrants, mostly from El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras, ride on these trains to avoid immigration checkpoints and detention centers. However, the journey is extremely hazardous, with many riders suffering life-altering injuries and some being killed instantly due to decapitation, blood loss, and shock. Despite efforts by some citizens and organizations to aid migrants, the Mexican government has been criticized for its relaxed approach to rights violations and abuses. In 2023, one of Mexico's largest freight rail companies, Ferromex, suspended operations of 60 trains to protect migrant safety.learn more on wikipedia
