Kentucky River

The Kentucky River is a 260-mile long tributary of the Ohio River in Kentucky, United States, draining a watershed of approximately 7,000 square miles and supplying drinking water to about one-sixth of the state's population. The river has 14 dams, managed by the state-run Kentucky River Authority, which provide a pool of water for the city of Lexington's drinking supply. The river's main stem is formed near Beattyville by the confluence of the North, Middle, and South Forks, and it flows northwest through the Eastern Coalfield and the Daniel Boone National Forest before joining the Ohio River at Carrollton.
