Kentucky Derby
The Kentucky Derby is a Grade I stakes race held annually at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky, on the first Saturday in May. It is the first leg of the Triple Crown and is run by three-year-old Thoroughbreds at a distance of 1+1/4 miles. The race is known as "The Run for the Roses" and has been held every year since its inception in 1875, except for two instances when it was rescheduled due to World War II and the COVID-19 pandemic. The Derby has been alternately called "The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports", "The Fastest Two Minutes in Sports", or "The Greatest Two Minutes in Sports" due to its intense and thrilling nature. It is the most-watched and most-attended horse race in the United States and has been run annually on the same track since its beginning.learn more on wikipedia
