Kathmandu Valley
The Kathmandu Valley is a bowl-shaped valley located in the Himalayan mountains of Nepal, lying at the crossroads of ancient civilizations. It contains at least 130 important monuments, including seven World Heritage Sites, and is home to a population of around 5 million people. The valley is the most developed and largest urban agglomeration in Nepal, with a strong economy and a rich cultural heritage, hosting a high number of festivals. It was hit by a devastating earthquake in 2015, causing thousands of deaths and widespread destruction. Historically, the valley was known as the Nepal Mandala, with Bhaktapur as its capital until the 15th century, and was later referred to as the Kathmandu Valley, with the term Nepa Valley still used among the Newar people and local governments.learn more on wikipedia
