Kangerlussuaq Airport
Kangerlussuaq Airport is a major airport in Greenland, serving as a hub for Air Greenland and handling large aircraft. It was previously the international hub for Air Greenland but has transitioned to Nuuk Airport since 2024, coinciding with the opening of its new lengthened runway and terminal. The airport was originally built by the US during their occupation in 1941 as Bluie West-8 and has undergone significant changes over the years, including the introduction of transatlantic civilian flights in the 1950s and the handling of research camps on the Greenland ice sheet. Plans to move the main Greenland intercontinental air hub away from Kangerlussuaq were agreed upon in 2011, with new airports to be built at Qaqortoq, Nuuk, and Ilulissat, but the Kangerlussuaq Airport will remain open.learn more on wikipedia
