K'gari Island

K'gari is a World Heritage-listed sand island in the Wide Bay-Burnett region of Queensland, Australia. The island, which was previously known as Fraser Island, is located approximately 250 kilometers north of Brisbane and is part of the Great Sandy National Park. It has a population of 152 people and is visited by up to 500,000 people each year. The island is part of the traditional lands of the Butchulla people and was named after Captain James Fraser, who was shipwrecked and died on the island in 1836.
