Jasper National Park
Jasper National Park, located in Alberta, Canada, is the largest national park within the province's Rocky Mountains, spanning 11,000 km2. It was established as Jasper Forest Park in 1907, renamed a national park in 1930, and declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1984. The park is home to glaciers, springs, lakes, waterfalls, and mountains, including the Columbia Icefield. The area has been inhabited by various First Nations peoples, including the Nakoda, Cree, Secwépemc, and Dane-zaa, since time immemorial. In the late 18th and early 19th centuries, Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabe hunters and trappers moved into the region, and by the early 19th century, there were hundreds of people living in the area. The park's name originates from Jasper Haws, a fur trader who worked for the North West Company, and the site of Jasper House, a trading post he commanded, was designated a national historic site in 1924. Jasper National Park was established in 1907, but its development plans were hindered by the presence of long-established Métis homesteads within the park, leading to the displacement of six Métis families in 1909.learn more on wikipedia
