On January 6, 2021, a mob of Donald Trump's supporters attacked the United States Capitol Building in an attempt to prevent the certification of President-elect Joe Biden's victory in the 2020 presidential election. The attack, which was part of a seven-part plan by Trump to overturn the election, was ultimately unsuccessful and resulted in the deaths of five people and the injury of 174 police officers.
