Iranian Islamic Revolution
The Iranian Revolution was a series of events that led to the overthrow of the Pahlavi dynasty in 1979, resulting in the replacement of the Imperial State of Iran with the Islamic Republic of Iran. The revolution was sparked by a combination of factors, including the opposition of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini to the modernization efforts of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, and the deaths of hundreds of people in a fire at the Cinema Rex in August 1978. The revolution culminated in the exile of Pahlavi and the return of Khomeini, who became the Supreme Leader of Iran in December 1979. The revolution was marked by a massive exile of Iranians, the replacement of a pro-Western secular monarchy with an anti-Western Islamist theocratic monarchy, and the declaration of the destruction of Israel as a core objective.learn more on wikipedia
