Indus River
The Indus River is a 3,180 km long transboundary river that originates in the Western Tibet region of China and flows northwest through the disputed Kashmir region before bifurcating and emptying into the Arabian Sea. It has a total drainage area of circa 1,120,000 km2 and an estimated annual flow of around 175 km3/a, making it one of the 50 largest rivers in the world. The river supports the ecosystems of temperate forests, plains, and arid countryside and has been historically important to many cultures, including the Indus Valley Civilization and the ancient kingdoms of Gandhara and Sindhu-Sauvira. The river's name comes from the ancient Greek word "Indos," which was derived from the Achaemenian Old Persian word "hindu," denoting an eastern province of the Achaemenid empire.learn more on wikipedia
