Indian Wells Open
The Indian Wells Open is an annual professional tennis tournament held in Indian Wells, California, on outdoor hardcourts at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, and is typically held in March. The tournament is part of the ATP Masters 1000 events on the ATP Tour and part of the WTA 1000 events on the WTA Tour, and is the best-attended tennis tournament outside the four Grand Slam tournaments. The Indian Wells Tennis Garden, the venue of the tournament, is the second-largest permanent tennis stadium in the world, with 29 tennis courts and a 16,100-seat main stadium. The tournament was founded by former tennis pros Charlie Pasarell and Raymond Moore, and has been known by several names throughout its history, with BNP Paribas holding the naming rights since 2009. The tournament has a history of notable boycotts, including the Williams sisters, who boycotted the event from 2001 to 2014 following a controversy in 2001.learn more on wikipedia
