Imjin River

The Imjin River is the 7th largest river in Korea, flowing from north to south and crossing the Demilitarized Zone before joining the Han River near the Yellow Sea. It was the site of two major battles, the Battle of Imjin River during the Imjin War in 1592 and the Battle of the Imjin River during the Korean War. In 2018, a joint inter-Korean survey was conducted to develop a Joint Utilization Zone along the river's estuary, allowing civilians to access the area for tourism and ecological protection. The river is known for its rapid runoff and flooding during the Korean rainy season, and its icy conditions during the winter.
