Imam Hussein
Husayn ibn Ali was a social, political, and religious leader who was the grandson of the Islamic prophet Muhammad and a son of Ali ibn Abi Talib and Muhammad's daughter Fatima. He was considered a prominent member of the Ahl al-Bayt and a participant in the event of the mubahala, and was described by Muhammad as one of the leaders of the youth of Paradise. Husayn accompanied his father Ali in wars and later obeyed his brother Hasan in recognizing the Hasan-Mu'awiya treaty. After Hasan's death, Husayn was invited to lead an uprising in Kufa, but he refused to pledge allegiance to Mu'awiya's son Yazid and was subsequently martyred in the Battle of Karbala along with most of his relatives and companions. The battle galvanized the development of the pro-Alid party into a unique religious sect with its own rituals and collective memory, and Husayn's suffering and martyrdom are still commemorated by Shi'a Muslims today.learn more on wikipedia
