IK-3 Arctic Penal Colony
The FKU IK-3, also known as Polar Wolf or Yamskaya Troika, is a men's maximum security corrective colony located in the town of Kharp in the Priuralsky District in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. It was founded on August 21, 1961, on the former camp unit of the 501st Gulag construction site and initially known as "YATs-34/3". The colony has undergone several name changes and renovations, with the most recent being in 2008 when it was renamed to FKU IK-3. The prison has a maximum occupancy of 1,085 people and has been known for its harsh conditions, with prisoners describing unbearable cold, repulsive food, unsanitary conditions, and constant beatings. In 2024, the UK and US governments imposed sanctions on several individuals in charge of the prison at the time of Alexei Navalny's death.learn more on wikipedia
