IK-3 Arctic Penal Colony

The FKU IK-3, also known as Polar Wolf or Yamskaya Troika, is a men's maximum security corrective colony located in the town of Kharp in the Priuralsky District in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. It was founded on August 21, 1961, on the former camp unit of the 501st Gulag construction site and initially known as "YATs-34/3". The colony has undergone several name changes and renovations, with the most recent being in 2008 when it was renamed to FKU IK-3. The prison has a maximum occupancy of 1,085 people and has been known for its harsh conditions, with prisoners describing unbearable cold, repulsive food, unsanitary conditions, and constant beatings.
