Hibakusha
Hibakusha are people affected by the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945, primarily survivors of the bombings who were exposed to radiation. The Japanese government has officially recognized about 650,000 people as hibakusha, with 106,825 still alive as of 2024, mostly in Japan. Hibakusha are entitled to government support, including a monthly allowance and special medical benefits for those suffering from bomb-related illnesses. The memorials in Hiroshima and Nagasaki contain lists of the names of known hibakusha who have died since the bombings, with over 540,000 names recorded as of 2024. Non-Japanese hibakusha, including Koreans and Japanese-Americans, have also been recognized and entitled to free medical care and support.learn more on wikipedia
