Heard Island

The Territory of Heard Island and McDonald Islands is an Australian external territory consisting of a group of volcanic islands in the Indian Ocean, approximately 4,100 kilometers southwest of Perth. The islands, which are uninhabited, were discovered in the mid-19th century and were formally claimed by the United Kingdom in 1910, before being transferred to Australia in 1947.
