Gundam
The Gundam franchise is a Japanese military science fiction media franchise created by Yoshiyuki Tomino and Sunrise, featuring giant robots called mobile suits, with the original series Mobile Suit Gundam aired on April 7, 1979. The franchise includes over 50 TV series, films, OVAs, manga, novels, and video games, and its popularity has led to the creation of a whole industry of plastic model kits known as Gunpla. As of 2020, the franchise is fully owned by Bandai Namco Holdings and has grossed over $5 billion in retail sales. The franchise's annual revenue reached ¥101.7 billion per year by 2022, with ¥44.2 billion from retail sales of toys and hobby items. The series' concept is centered around giant humanoid vehicles called Gundams, typically controlled by a human pilot from a cockpit, with most protagonists being Newtypes, genetically advanced humans adapted for space. Mobile Suit Gundam pioneered the "real robot" subgenre of mecha anime, attempting realism in its robot design and weaponry.learn more on wikipedia
