Great Patriotic War
The Eastern Front was a theatre of World War II fought between the European Axis powers and the Allies, including the Soviet Union and Poland, spanning Central, Eastern, Northeast, and Southeast Europe from June 22, 1941 to May 9, 1945. The front was decisive in determining the outcome in the European theatre of operations, with over 30 million deaths, including 9 million children, and more than 80% of all combat taking place on the front. The Axis forces, led by Nazi Germany, launched Operation Barbarossa on June 22, 1941, and were initially unable to halt the Soviet advance, but were ultimately defeated at Stalingrad, Kursk, and Berlin, leading to the capture of the German capital and the signing of the German Instrument of Surrender on May 8, 1945. The Eastern Front was marked by brutal and destructive fighting, including massacres, ethnic cleansing, and genocidal campaigns, resulting in the deaths of millions of Eastern European natives.learn more on wikipedia
