Great Keppel Island
Great Keppel Island is a 1308-hectare tropical island located off the coast of Yeppoon in Central Queensland, Australia. It is part of the Capricorn Coast and is home to 17 white sandy beaches, coral reefs, and a diverse array of marine life. The island attracts over 50,000 tourists each year due to its beautiful climate and natural attractions. European settlers first arrived on the island in the mid-19th century and established a sheep-raising industry, with the Woppaburra people being forcibly removed from the island by the lessee. The island was vacant from 1903 to 1918 before being taken over by the O'Neill family, who ran a sheep farm and built a homestead. The island was later developed as a tourist destination after World War II, with the first huts being built by a local fisherman in the 1940s.learn more on wikipedia
