Great Barrington Declaration
The Great Barrington Declaration is an open letter published in October 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdowns. The declaration, signed by Sunetra Gupta, Jay Bhattacharya, and Martin Kulldorff, proposed a strategy of "focused protection" which would shield those most at risk of dying from COVID-19, while allowing the rest of the population to contract the virus and develop herd immunity. This strategy was based on the assumption that any infection would confer long-term sterilizing immunity, and that the disease burden of mass infection could be tolerated. However, the World Health Organization and numerous academic and public-health bodies stated that this strategy was dangerous and lacked a sound scientific basis, warning that it would lead to a large number of avoidable deaths and recurrent epidemics.learn more on wikipedia
