Gospels
The term "gospel" originally referred to the Christian message, but in the second century AD, it came to be used for the books that reported this message. These books, known as gospels, are loose-knit, episodic narratives of the words and deeds of Jesus, culminating in his trial and death, and concluding with reports of his post-resurrection appearances. The gospels are a type of ancient biography meant to convince readers that Jesus was a charismatic miracle-working holy man. They were probably written between AD 66 and 110, and although they provide a good idea of Jesus' public career, critical study has failed to distinguish his original ideas from those of later Christian authors. The four canonical gospels are Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, and most scholars believe that they were anonymous, using various sources and oral traditions to create their narratives.learn more on wikipedia
