Getty Villa
The Getty Villa is an educational center and art museum located in Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles, dedicated to the study of ancient Greek, Roman, and Etruscan art and culture. It houses a collection of 44,000 antiquities dating from 6,500 BC to 400 AD, including the Lansdowne Heracles and the Victorious Youth. The museum was designed by architects Robert E. Langdon, Jr. and Ernest C. Wilson, Jr. and opened in 1974. In 1993, the museum underwent a renovation, during which parts of the collection were moved to the Getty Center, and was reopened in 2006 with a new architectural plan inspired by ancient Roman designs. The collection has been the subject of controversy surrounding claims of looting and repatriation, with the Getty returning four looted objects to Greece in 2006 and signing an agreement to return 40 looted items to Italy in 2007.learn more on wikipedia
