Gardasil
The Gardasil vaccine is an HPV vaccine developed by Merck & Co. that protects against certain strains of human papillomavirus, including types 6, 11, 16, and 18, which cause cervical, anal, vulvar, vaginal, and penile cancers, as well as genital warts. The vaccine was approved in the US in 2006 for females aged 9-26, and in 2011, approval was expanded to include males. In 2014, a nine-valent version, Gardasil 9, was approved to protect against additional HPV strains responsible for 20% of cervical cancers. The vaccine is recommended for individuals prior to them becoming sexually active and is also recommended for HPV-positive individuals as it may protect against one or more different strains of the disease. Gardasil is available in two forms: the original vaccine which protects against 4 types of HPV and Gardasil 9 which protects against an additional 5 types.learn more on wikipedia
