Ganges River
The Ganges is a 2,525 km long trans-boundary river that flows through India and Bangladesh. It rises in the western Himalayas in the Indian state of Uttarakhand and flows south and east through the Gangetic plain of North India, receiving several tributaries including the Yamuna and left-bank tributaries from Nepal. The river continues into Bangladesh, where it is joined by the Jamuna and eventually the Meghna, forming the major estuary of the Ganges Delta and emptying into the Bay of Bengal. The Ganges is a lifeline to tens of millions of people and is considered the most sacred river to Hindus, who worship it as the goddess Ganga. However, the river is threatened by severe pollution, with high levels of fecal coliform bacteria and other pollutants posing a danger to humans and animals.learn more on wikipedia
