G8 Outreach Summit

The Group of Eight, or G8, was an intergovernmental forum that existed from 1997 to 2014, formed by incorporating Russia into the G7. It was rebranded as the G7 after Russia's expulsion in 2014. The G8 originated from a 1975 summit hosted by France, which brought together six governments: France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK, and the US. Canada joined in 1976, and Russia was added in 1997, making it the G8. Russia was suspended in 2014 due to the annexation of Crimea and officially withdrew in 2017, though some G7 countries expressed interest in Russia's return.
