Francoist Spain, also known as the Francoist dictatorship, was the period of Spanish history from 1936 to 1975 when Francisco Franco ruled as a caudillo after the Spanish Civil War. Initially, the regime was a fascist dictatorship with a one-party system, but it evolved into a developmental dictatorship with residual fascist traits. During the Second World War, Spain remained neutral but supported the Axis powers, and after the war it was isolated from the international community. The 1950s saw economic reforms that led to massive growth, known as the 'Spanish miracle', and Spain joined the United Nations in 1955.
