Fort Belvoir

Fort Belvoir is a United States Army installation and census-designated place in Fairfax County, Virginia. It was originally the home of William Fairfax, cousin and land agent of Thomas Fairfax, and was later developed into a military base. The post was founded as Camp A. A. Humphreys during World War I and was renamed Fort Belvoir in the 1930s. It is home to a number of significant military organizations and is the largest employer in Fairfax County. The fort comprises three geographically distinct areas: main base, Davison Army Airfield, and Fort Belvoir North. The site of the fort was previously the Belvoir plantation, which was destroyed by fire in 1783, and the ruins are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.learn more on wikipedia
