Fordow Nuclear Site
The Fordow Fuel Enrichment Plant is an Iranian underground uranium enrichment facility located northeast of the city of Qom, near Fordow village. The site was disclosed to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) by Iran on September 21, 2009, and was initially stated to be for the production of uranium enriched up to 5% U-235. The facility was later modified to also produce uranium enriched up to 20% LEU, and in 2015, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) was reached, which required the facility to be restructured for less intensive research use. However, in 2019, Iran announced that it would enrich uranium to 5% at Fordow, and in 2021, the site began to produce uranium enriched to a 20% level. As of 2023, the IAEA has confirmed that near bomb-grade uranium had been discovered at the facility, and in 2024, Iran had built additional centrifuges and was reportedly planning to triple the centrifuge capacity of the plant.learn more on wikipedia
