First Lebanon War
The 1982 Lebanon War, also known as the First Lebanon War, began on June 6, 1982, when Israel invaded Lebanon in response to a series of attacks and counter-attacks between the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and the Israeli military. Israel's objectives were to expel the PLO, remove Syrian influence over Lebanon, and install a pro-Israeli Christian government. The war resulted in the Israeli military occupying southern Lebanon, surrounding the PLO and Syrian forces in west Beirut, and subjecting them to a siege and heavy bombardment. The war ended with Israel's withdrawal from Beirut in 1985, but led to 15 years of low-scale armed conflict between Shi'a militant groups and Israeli occupation forces, until Israel's final withdrawal from Lebanon in 2000.learn more on wikipedia
