Falklands War
The Falklands War was a 74-day conflict between Argentina and the United Kingdom in 1982 over the sovereignty of the Falkland Islands and South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands. Argentina invaded the islands on April 2, 1982, and the British government responded with a naval task force, resulting in an Argentine surrender on June 14, 1982. The conflict resulted in the deaths of 649 Argentine, 255 British, and 3 Falkland Island military personnel and civilians. The war had significant effects on both countries, with Argentina's military government being overthrown and the UK's Conservative government being re-elected with a majority. Diplomatic relations between the UK and Argentina were restored in 1989, but the sovereignty of the Falkland Islands remains a disputed issue.learn more on wikipedia
