Endangered Species Act
The Endangered Species Act of 1973 (ESA) is a US law that protects and conserves imperiled species, signed into law by President Richard Nixon on December 28, 1973. The Act has two main purposes: to prevent extinction and to recover species to the point where protections are no longer needed. It is administered by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service and the National Marine Fisheries Service, who have the authority to promulgate rules and guidelines to implement its provisions. The Act serves as the enacting legislation for the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) and has been instrumental in preventing the extinction of several species, including the bald eagle and the whooping crane.learn more on wikipedia
