The United States Capitol Visitor Center is a large underground addition to the United States Capitol complex that serves as a gathering point for tourists and an expansion space for the U.S. Congress. The complex, which includes 580,000 square feet of space on three levels, was completed in 2008 at a cost of $621 million, with a ceremonial groundbreaking taking place in 2000 and construction supervised by the Architect of the Capitol.
