Dongfeng intercontinental missiles

The Dongfeng (missile) series is a family of ballistic missiles operated by the Chinese People's Liberation Army Rocket Force. The series originated from Soviet designs, with the first Dongfeng missile, the DF-1, being a licensed copy of the Soviet R-2 (SS-2) short-range ballistic missile. The DF-1 had a range of 550 km and a 500 kg payload, and was produced in limited numbers in the 1960s. The next model, the DF-2, had a range of 1,250 km and a 15-20 kt nuclear warhead, and was also based on a Soviet design, the R-5 Pobeda. The DF-3, which had a range of 2,500 km and a 2,000 kg payload, was China's first "domestic" intermediate-range ballistic missile, and was later improved to the DF-3A with a 3,000 km range.
