The Dome of the Rock is an Islamic shrine located at the center of the Al-Aqsa mosque compound on the Temple Mount in the Old City of Jerusalem, considered the world's oldest surviving work of Islamic architecture. It was initially constructed in 691-692 CE by the Umayyad Caliphate and features an octagonal plan, influenced by nearby Byzantine churches and palaces, with an elevated circular drum supporting a 20m diameter dome.
