Doctor Who is a British science fiction television series created by Sydney Newman, C. E. Webber, and Donald Wilson, first broadcast in 1963. The series follows the adventures of an extraterrestrial being called the Doctor, a member of a humanoid species called Time Lords, who travels through time and space in a time machine called the TARDIS. The Doctor's many incarnations, portrayed by 14 different actors, work to save lives and prevent evil forces from harming innocent people, often accompanied by human companions. The series has been a significant part of popular culture in Britain and elsewhere, and has influenced generations of television professionals.
