The convention is attended by pledged delegates from all 50 US states, the District of Columbia, and American territories, as well as superdelegates representing the Democratic establishment. The party's presidential nominee is chosen primarily by pledged delegates, who are selected through state caucuses and primary elections, with superdelegates voting only in the event of a contested nomination.
