Crusades

The Crusades were a series of religious wars initiated by the Christian Latin Church in the medieval period, primarily aimed at reconquering Jerusalem and its surrounding area from Muslim rule. The first Crusade was proclaimed by Pope Urban II in 1095, resulting in the conquest of Jerusalem in 1099, and subsequent campaigns were organised, often led by kings, until the 15th century.
